BACOLOD City – Beneficiaries of the city government’s Asenso Yuhum Housing Project (AYHP) in Barangay Vista Alegre are set to receive their new homes next month. The Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA) has confirmed the completion of four buildings comprising 296 housing units.

Ma. Victoria Parreñas, BHA department head, announced that the houses, constructed under the Arao Residences project, will be turned over to PAG-IBIG-approved beneficiaries by mid-December 2024.

The housing project is part of the city’s partnership with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and PAG-IBIG Fund under the national Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program (4PH), which aims to address the country’s housing backlog by providing decent and affordable housing for Filipino families.

The city government has committed to building 25 structures under the 4PH program to provide safe and secure homes, particularly for informal settler families (ISFs) living in 258 high-risk “red zones” prone to fire hazards. These areas are characterized by overcrowding, substandard materials, and lack of basic utilities.

“This is a significant step towards creating a Homeless-Free Bacolod and ensuring sustainable urban development,” Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said.

According to Mayor Benitez, beneficiaries will include ISFs earning a minimum monthly wage of P10,000 who qualify for long-term housing loans through PAG-IBIG. Beneficiaries will benefit from DHSUD subsidies and pay a reduced monthly amortization of P2,300 for 30 years.

The initiative underscores Bacolod City’s commitment to transforming vulnerable communities and improving the quality of life for its residents./PN
