MANILA – Loses continued to pile up for Bacolodnon fighter Robert Ates after he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to veteran Regie Suganob over the weekend at the IPI Compound in Mandaue City, Cebu.
It was a tough break for Ates as this was his eighth consecutive defeat despite managing to keep in step with undefeated Suganob in their match.
With the loss, the 29-year-old boxer saw his record slump to 4-8-0 win-loss-draw, including two victories by way of stoppages while Suganob hiked his slate to 5-0-0, including one knockout win.
Meanwhile, Bacolodnon boxer Ricky delos Santos failed to extend his winning streak as his supposed boxing match with former Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga in the boxing card was suspended.
While no reason given for the sudden cancellation, it was supposed to be a comeback fight for Barriga, who last stepped in the ring in 2018 when he was defeated by Carlos Licona of the USA.
The 21-year-old Delos Santos was armed with a two-game winning run heading into the match after beating Antiqueño Romeo Anselmo in their two meetings last year in Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, Carl Jammes Martin stretched his unbeaten record to 16-0-0, with 14 stoppage victories, following a unanimous decision win over fellow veteran boxer Richard Rosales.
Prince Albert Pagara was successful in his return bout after almost a year when he decisioned Virgil Puton while Christian Araneta came up with a knockout win over Roland Biendima.
In other results, Tomjune Mangubat decisions Reymond Empic, Peter Apolinar edged Danny Tampipi, Carlo Bacaro halted Ryan Maano in three rounds, Franco Serafica decisions Matthew Fondales and Benny Canete knocked out John Villagonzalo./PN
