MANILA – Bernalyn Bejoy of Bacolod City captured her second bronze medal as the Philippines ends up on sixth place in the 2018 ASEAN School Games in Malaysia.

Bejoy – along with teammates Jessel Lumapas, Riza Jane Vallente and Divina Mahusay – landed on third place in girls 4x400m relay.

It was Bejoy’s second bronze medal in the tournament. She also placed third in 800m dash but failed to land a medal finish in 400m hurdles.

“I am happy with what my Negrense tracksters have shown in the ASG,” said Negros team head coach Addy Arca.

“Almost all of our bets won medals. We will again prepare well so we can improve our performance next year,” Arca added.

At the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre, Filipino swimmers Jerard Dominic Jacinto and Samantha Therese Coronel secured medals in 100m boys and girls backstroke.

Jacinto clocked 57.72 seconds to grab silver – just .53 seconds slower than gold medalist Farrel Armandio Tangkas of Indonesia (57.25). Coronel, on the other hand, settled for bronze.

When the weeklong event formally ended Wednesday, the Philippines was on sixth place with nine gold, seven silver and 20 bronze medals – a far cry from its 13-8-21 medal haul in last year’s edition in Singapore.

Malaysia was the overall champion (37-34-32), followed by Indonesia (31-36-30), last year’s overall champion Thailand (19-21-31), Singapore (13-16-22), and Vietnam (13-8-6)./PN
