MANILA – Bacolodnon gymnast Kiana Marie Alagaban is currently on rigid training as she will be evaluated for the national team by March or April 2021.

“We are targeting to get into the national team since it will be a great opportunity for Kiana to hone her skills further. It will be tough because there are also a lot of talented gymnasts but Kiana will do her best,” Kiana’s mother Ma. Kristina said.

“Also it was Kiana’s dream to be part of the national team. So, despite the difficulties this pandemic brings, we still find ways to train and online competitions are good exposures,” she added.

Kiana, a decorated gymnast winning gold medals as a secondary and elementary player in Palarong Pambansa, competed in various online gymnastics tournaments the past few months and had impressive showings.

During the International Rhythmic Inter-Club Online 2020 competition hosted by Mexico last Oct. 2020, Alagaban captured bronze in the ball category (16-and-up division).

Alagaban also clinched bronze medals in the ribbon and ball categories and finished fourth in the individual all-around category during the Regina Rhythmic Gymnastics Online competition in South Africa last November.

Alagaban secured gold in the ribbon category and a bronze in the ball event (junior-senior category) in the recent 1st International Golden Cup online gymnastics competition.

“I was supposed to move up to the senior category this year since my focus is entering the national training pool but the pandemic happened,” said the 16-year-old Kiana.

“I was really looking forward to play in WVRAA (Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association) Meet this year but since it was cancelled, I will just focus on improving myself,” she added./PN
