MANILA – Bacolodnon gymnast Kiana Marie Alagaban captured a bronze medal in the Captain’s Cup 1st Philippine International Open Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship on Sunday at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The 14-year-old Alagaban, a product of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, captured her bronze medal in the rope category, while settling for fifth in ball, sixth in ribbon and sixth in clubs.
The bronze medal in the national tournament is another achievement for Alagaban, who is from Mk Gymnastics, following her gold medal finish in the 2018 NOPSSCEA tournament last year.
Unlike Alagaban, fellow Bacolodnon and Mk Gymnastics’ Althea Descutido were not as fortunate after finishing at eighth place in the ball, ninth in ribbon, ninth in clubs and ninth in hoops.
Descutido, a standout of the Trinity Christian Academy, is using the tournament in preparation for the 2019 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet next month in Capiz.
The four-day gymnastics tournament was participated by around 185 gymnasts from six countries namely Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, India, Taiwan and Malaysia./PN
