Bacolodnon joins Creamline in AVC Cup

MANILA – Fille Cainglet-Cayetano is returning to the national volleyball team scene as part of the Creamline-Philippines that will compete in the Asian Volleyball Confederation Cup for Women starting Sunday.

The Bacolod City native was one of the 14 Cool Smashers players that was lined up for the week-long competition to be held at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

This also served as Cainglet-Cayetano’s Philippine team comeback after becoming part of the Petron Blaze Spikers-Philippines that placed eighth in the 2014-2015 Asian Club Championship.

Also part of the squad were reigning Premier Volleyball League Open Conference and Invitational MVP Diana Carlos as well as PVL Invitational Finals MVP Celine Domingo.

Completing the crew were Alyssa Valdez, Julia Morado-de Guzman, Jessica Galanza, Risa Sato, Jeanette Panaga,Michele Gumabao, Jorella de Jesus, Pauline Soriano, Kyla Atienza, Kyle Negrito and Rosemarie Vargas.

The Creamline-Philippines team, to be handled by head coach Sherwin Meneses, will open its campaign against Vietnam on Sunday before taking a Monday off.  

The national women’s volleyball team resumes its bid against China on Tuesday and Iran on Wednesday before wrapping up pool play action against Korea on Thursday.

The national women’s team needs to finish in the top four in Pool A to qualify for the quarterfinals. The fifth-placed team in Pool A will finish in ninth place.

Pool B was reduced to four teams after the withdrawal of Kazahkstan on Tuesday. Japan, Thailand, Chinese-Taipei and Australia make up Pool B.

Creamline-Philippines were tapped to represent the country after the Philippine National Volleyball Federation decided to break the previous Philippine team, led by players from National University Lady Bulldogs./PN
