MANILA – Bacolodnon Franzine Alamo believes she took the right step.
She agreed to continue her high school career with the University of the East (UE) from Romanito P. Maravilla National High School.
Alamo admitted it was not easy for her to leave Romanito and her coaches Addy and Miguel Arca, but the offer from UE girls’ athletics head coach Christopher Balcoba was too hard to pass up.
“I am thankful (na) natanggap at naintindihan (nang mga coaches) ‘yung decision ko to try my luck in Manila. Masakit para sa akin na iwan sila dahil five years din kaming nagsama,” she said.
Alamo revealed that it was her friend and Junior Lady Warrior Irene Magcalayo who persuaded her to transfer to UE.
“Si Irene (Magcalayo) ‘yung nag convince (sakin) to go to UE for senior high school. Sabi niya maganda ang academics doon at may slot sa akin si coach Chris (Balcoba),” Alamo said.
The Bacolodnon will be competing in the long jump, triple jump and relay events of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
“It’s a blessing from God na makapasok ako sa UE. I am thankful that my parents did not think twice na payagan ako na makalaro for the school,” she stressed.
Alamo is a familiar face to both athletes and fans as she represented Negros Occidental in regional and Batang Pinoy competitions before./PN
