PLAYERS from Bacolod City are among those leading the Philippines’ men and women teams that will compete in the 2nd World Beach Tchoukball Championships from Aug. 14 to 18 at the Sunset Beach Resort in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.
Composing the men’s team are head coach-referee-player John Elray Jamelo, assistant coach-referee-player Benjie Oray, Josiah Su, Rik Aldrei Despojo from Bacolod City, Lee Tomas and Josiah Iñigo Yucoco from Manila, and Jasper Ray Tagarda from Butuan City.
The distaff side comprises players Nadine Julia Crisostomo (team captain), Ivanna Aguilar, Mary Abelarde, and Ashley Julienne Pedregosa from Bacolod City, and Angel Therese Arapan, Hamida Kaylah Baluchi and Shenia Clarisse Tagarda from Butuan City, and assistant coach-referee Corinth Chua from Cebu.
Tchoukball Association of the Philippines and Asia-Pacific Tchoukball Federation (APTBF) president Raymund Jamelo, Federación Internacional de Tchoukball Executive Committee member Elvira Jamelo, APTBF Executive Committee member Juliana Carbon, team manager Reve Abelarde, team coordinator Jozel Maiko Brasileño, and team chaplain Jonie Brasileño are heading the 21-member delegation.
They will leave for Taiwan on Aug. 7.
Tchoukball is an indoor ball game for two teams of 12 players (seven on the court at any time), in which points are scored by throwing the ball so that it hits a frame and bounces outside of a semicircular region.
Fourteen teams in the men’s division and nine in the women’s division are competing in the tchoukball world event.
Other participants are from Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, France, Hong Kong, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and the African Tchoukball Confederation (Uganda, Cameroon, Mauritius, Ghana, and Ivory Coast).
