Bacolod’s budget for garbage collection up this year

BACOLOD City – This city’s Approved Budget for the Contract (ABC) pertaining to the environmental and sanitary services will increase this year due to the volume of garbage that had also increased.

Based on the contract of the city government with garbage collection contractor IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC), the city government was paying an estimated amount of P17.4 million per month in 2024 to the latter.

The city contracted the said company for a total amount of P156,399,150 for a nine-month period for the hauling and collection of garbage only.

Ma. Fe Trespuentes, head of the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), disclosed that the contract last year, which was ratified by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, was based on their estimated volume of garbage per day of 347 tons.

But after the IPM-CDC contract had lapsed on December 31, 2024 with an extension of one month for January 2025, the terms of reference on the contract will undergo some revisions in terms of the volume of garbage per day due to the increase in the volume of garbage collected.

Trespuentes also said that based on their study on waste generation volume, the city had collected 577 tons of garbage per day.

Data from BENRO showed that the garbage collections per month in 2024 are the following:

* January – 11,183.47 tons

* February – 9,456.40 tons

* March – 9,478.50 tons

* April – 9,478.50 tons

* May – 9,896.86 tons

* June – 10,750.60 tons

* July – 11,542.82 tons

* August – 11,433.14 tons

* September – 10,996.58 tons

* October – 12,062.23 tons

* November – 10,447.63 tons

* December – 11,351.00 tons

Trespuentes said the month of October had the highest volume of garbage collected due to the Masskara Festival celebration while garbage collected for January and December also increased following the holiday celebrations./PN
