BACOLOD City – The City Government of Bago in Negros Occidental will utilize its P18-million quick response fund (QRF) to assist residents affected by the Mount Kanlaon eruption on December 9.
Mayor Nicholas Yulo said even though the entire province is under a state of calamity due to the Kanlaon blast effective December 13, they made a similar declaration “for formality and documentation”.
“We adopted the resolution of the province,” the mayor said, adding that the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Bago held a special session yesterday, December 16, following the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to declare a state of calamity.
Mayor Yulo said the QRF is essential for the needs of the evacuees apart from assistance provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The city government implemented a force evacuation for all residents within the 6-kilometer radius danger zone of Mount Kanlaon, particularly in Barangay Ilijan.
As of yesterday, a total of 49 families, or 159 individuals, were evacuated.
The city mayor added that all 24 barangays of the city were affected by ashfall./PN
