ILOILO – The Bailey bridge in Barangay Oyungan, Miag-ao town will be passable for light vehicles starting today.

The installation of the temporary, portable and prefabricated Bailey bridge was completed after a portion of the Oyungan bridge was damaged by Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” on Oct. 28.

For days after the storm, vehicles were not allowed to pass the Oyungan bridge. But people can cross the bridge on foot.

The local government unit (LGU) of Miag-ao, together with the 1st Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), put up the Bailey bridge to temporarily address the problem.

The installation took almost two weeks.

Meanwhile, for heavy vehicles prohibited from passing the Bailey bridge, there will be an alternative route, according to Miag-ao municipal engineer Rey Mosura.

The DPWH has the authority to give the signals for the passage of light vehicles such as light trucks, sports utility vehicles, light delivery trucks, pick-ups, and modernized jeepneys weighing 5 to 10 tons./PN
