ILOILO City – Barangay Captain Remia Prevendido Gregori of Bakhaw, Mandurriao district criticized an arrested drug pushing suspect for linking her to drug trafficking.

Naga ayo na nga manglaba sa amon pero wala ko gapasugot (She asked me to let her do our laundry for a fee but I turned her down),” said Gregori, sister of slain drug lord Richard Prevendido.

She was referring to 35-year-old Mary Mae Avelino of Barangay Cubay, Jaro district whom policemen arrested with two others in a buy-bust operation late night on March 8 in Pavia, Iloilo.

Avelino told the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit that Gregori’s son Missy was their group leader and that she would every now and then remit the proceeds of their transactions at the barangay captain’s house.

Gregori, who voluntarily presented herself to the police September last year in line with the Philippine National Police’s Oplan Tokhang antidrug campaign, denied Avelino’s claim.

“Avelino has not stepped inside our house,” she insisted.

The barangay captain also claimed having no idea of her son Missy’s activities and his whereabouts.

“I haven’t seen or talked to my son since last year. We have no communication,” said Gregori.

Avelino claimed to be a “runner” of Missy.

Sixty-four sachets of shabu with an estimated street value of P70,000 were seized from Avelino and companions Melbert “Praning” Domanillo, 25, of Barangay Desamparados, Jaro and a 16-year-old lad from Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district in Barangay Jibao-an, Pavia around 9:30 p.m. Thursday last week.
Barangay Captain Gregori’s brother Richard died in a shootout with policemen in Barangay Balabago, Jaro last Sept. 1, 2017.

She claimed having no idea of her brother’s activities and denied protecting him.

Gregori previously expressed the fear her house would be raided and “planted” with illegal drugs./PN
