Baldo planned to kill ex-Daraga mayor, too?

MANILA – Daraga, Albay mayor Carlwyn Baldo also plotted to assassinate his
predecessor, the late Gerry Jaucian, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on
Monday.

In a media briefing on Monday, PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)
director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus said a witness revealed to them the
information in his sworn statement.

“That is cited in the statement of witnesses. Pinlano rin ni Mayor Baldo si Mayor Jaucian
in the amount of P350,000,” said Corpuz, who later identified the witness as Emmanuel
Judavar.

Jaucian was the previous mayor of Daraga, Albay. He won in the 2016 elections while
Baldo was the elected vice mayor.

Baldo assumed the mayorship after Jaucian died of lung cancer last year.

“Same people were involved in the assassination plot on (Jaucian), but the assassination
plot did not push through because the mayor died of illness last year,” Corpus said.

Baldo is accused of masterminding the killing of AKO Bicol Party-list representative
Rodel Batocabe last month to allegedly to eliminate an enemy in the 2019 midterm
elections.

Out of the 6 prime suspects in killing Batocabe, Judavar was the first to surrender and
squeal on the case. He claimed that he stepped forward because Baldo did not pay the
team the full P5 million he promised for the murder of Batocabe.

Meanwhile, ballistics examination conducted by PNP confirmed that the slugs and shells
recovered from the crime scene where Batocabe and his police escort was killed
belonged to gunman Henry Yuson.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said the slugs and shells matched the .40-
caliber pistol registered under the name of Yuson, according to result of test done by
PNP Crime Laboratory Office.

“The ballistic test result will further boost the case against the alleged mastermind
Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo and six other suspects,” Albayalde said in a press
conference.

The PNP had earlier filed cases of double murder and six counts of frustrated murder
against Baldo and the other suspects./PN
