MANILA – The Senate has committed to purge the Philippine National Police (PNP) of “bad eggs” through legislation.
Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV.
Aquino said the police should gain the trust of the public again.
“Kapag nakita ang PNP dapat alam nila mapagkakatiwalaan,” added Aquino.
During the congressional probe on the killing of Albuera, Leyte mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., PNP chief director general Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said that one to two percent of policemen are involved in illegal drug activities.
To ensure that the police force is cleansed of scalawags, dela Rosa has urged the Senate to restore the PNP’s control over training institutions of policemen.
The PNP should also be given the power of appointment, the police official added.
Dela Rosa also expressed support for the mandatory registration of SIM card users and the implementation of the national ID system./PN
