MANILA – Legislation requiring the employment of at least one registered nurse in every public school has been filed in the Senate.

Senate Bill No. (SBN) 663 directs all public schools in the country to hire one full-time school nurse to bring basic health services closer to the students.

“Having a nurse in every school emphasizes the value of health, nutrition and well-being as part of the formation of our Filipino children,” said Sen. Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV. “And with over 45,000 public schools, we create more meaningful jobs for our nurses.”

The Aquino bill provides that, nurses employed will get a monthly salary equal to Salary Grade 15 or P25,000.

Provisions of this measure, SBN 663 said, shall be implemented by the Department of Education and Department of Health.

“A nurse in every public school will safeguard the well-being of the students and faculty by attending to health-related issues and accidents,” Aquino concluded./PN
