BANKO Perlas Lady Spikers recovered from a set down to beat Ateneo Lady Eagles 16-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-20, 15-7 in the Bacolod City leg of the Volleytour Goodwill Game at the University of St. La Salle gym.
Amanda Villanueva, Rysabelle Devanadera, Angelique Gervacio, and Joy Dacoron came up with timely hits to lift the Lady Spikers, who swept their two-day Western Visayas exhibition matches.
Before the Sunday match in Bacolod, BanKo Perlas also beat Lady Eagles 25-23, 17-25, 25-15, 25-18 at the Philippine Science High School covered gym in Iloilo City on Saturday.
In Bacolod the Lady Eagles started strong in the first set for a 14-7 edge but the Lady Spikers rallied to within 13-17 behind Nicole Tiamzon and Amy Ahomiro. Ateneo then pulled away again to take the set.
BanKo Perlas opened the second set with a 14-8 lead on hits by Gervacio, Villanueva and Kathy Bersola. Ateneo kept it close 18-20 but hits from Gervacio, Villanueva, Ahomiro, and Fenela Emnas closed the set for the Lady Spikers.
Early In the third period the Lady Spikers tried to keep in step with the Lady Eagles, down only 10-12 on conversions from Tiamzon and Suzanne Roces. But Ateneo went on a huge run to build a 24-16 edge.
BanKo Perlas trailed early in the fourth frame but managed to advance 12-11 on hits by Gervacio before pulling away for good 24-20 on conversions from Devanadera and Dacoron.
The Lady Spikers pounded on their opponents in the fifth set with an 8-3 lead behind Devanadera and Gervacio. The lead grew 14-7 with Villanueva, Devanadera and Dacoron taking over the offense./PN
