Barangay councilman falls in drug buy-bust

SAN JOSE, Antique – A barangay councilman was arrested in an antidrug buy-bust operation of the police in Barangay San Fernando on Tuesday night, Dec. 13.

The 42-year-old Richel Jun Benoman of Barangay Atabay, San Jose now faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

An undercover policeman was able to buy for P1,500 from the suspect a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance, according to Police Captain Geremy Ian Magbanua, officer-in-charge of the San Jose police station.

The substance was suspected to be shabu.

Three more plastic sachets were recovered when the suspect was frisked, said Magbanua.

The buy-bust operation was conducted by the municipal police’s Station Drug Enforcement Team.

It also seized a piece of rolled aluminum foil, a tricycle and a cellphone.

Helping in the buy-bust were the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Antique Police Provincial Office and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Antique Provincial Office.

Suspect Benoman was taken to the San Jose police station./PN
