ILOILO – Authorities are investigating two possible motives behind the fatal shooting of a barangay tanod in Barangay Amparo, Pavia town over the weekend.
The victim, identified as Carmelino Minor Jr., 51, was found dead about 10 meters away from his motorcycle, with a gunshot wound on his upper left shoulder, believed to have been inflicted by a 12-gauge shotgun, on Saturday night, March 22.
According to Police Major Harold Rendora, chief of the Pavia Municipal Police Station, the first angle being investigated is a personal grudge possibly linked to Minor’s work as a tanod.
The second angle suggests a robbery, as Minor’s black sling bag was missing from the crime scene. His children confirmed that he had the bag when he left home, though they clarified it did not contain a large sum of money. However, reports indicate the bag may have contained P17,000, which Minor intended to use to pay laborers as he also worked as a foreman.
Residents in the area recalled hearing a single gunshot around 8 p.m., but they initially dismissed it as an electrical transformer explosion.
Rendora said they recovered the victim’s cellphone and will use it in their ongoing investigation. As of this writing, Pavia police have yet to identify the suspect. They continued to gather leads./PN
