MANILA – PLDT High Speed Hitters demonstrated their dominance against the Akari Power Chargers for a 25-22, 25-16, and 25-15 sweep in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference over the weekend at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Mary Joy Baron emerged as Player of the Game after tallying 11 points, solely from attacks (61.11% attack efficiency) as the High Speed Hitters notched their fourth win in six matches.
“I am happy and in-enjoy ko lang ‘yung game the whole time,” Baron said in a post-game interview. “I think we are very prepared since first game of the year, we have time to prepare and nasunod namin ‘yung game plan namin.”
“Gusto pa naming mag-improve game by game, mahaba pa ‘yung conference, mas gusto pa naming maging maayos and complete ‘yung gears namin,” added the former middle blocker of the De La Salle University Lady Spikers.
Savannah Davison was instrumental for the High Speed Hitters, contributing 15 points through 13 attacks and two blocks, while Erika Santos added 10 points to the team’s total.
For the Power Chargers, Faitn Nisperos was the only player to reach double digits, scoring 11 points, while Ivy Lacsina faced challenges, finishing with six points, resulting in a 3-4 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, Choco Mucho Flying Titans clawed back from two sets down to defeat the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-9.
Deanna Wong made her presence felt from third set onwards to finish with 10 excellent sets and seven points, built on four attacks, two service aces, and a block, as the Flying Titans moved up to a 4-3 win-loss slate.
Cherry Rondina led the way for the Flying Titans with 25 points, Dindin Santiago-Manabat added 19 markers, while Maria Lina Molde and Lorraine Pecana contributed 13 and 11 markers, respectively.
Ilongga Glaudine Trongcoso top-scored for the Thunderbelles with 17 points, Gayle Pascual added 15 markers, while Thea Gagate and Michelle Gamit ended with 14 and 13, respectively, as they dropped to a 2-4 record./PN
