Baronda secures P1B for Iloilo City’s flood mitigation project

ILOILO City – Rep. Julienne Baronda said she was able to secure almost P1 billion to fund a flood mitigation project here.

The Iloilo City Comprehensive Drainage Plan, based on a 2017 feasibility study, needed P6.2 billion. So far, the drainage project has been given around P500-million budget.

The P1-billion fund, which will be coursed through the General Appropriation Act (GAA), is a commitment from senators, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, said Baronda.

“Hopefully within six years matapos naton ina ang over P6-billion nga comprehensive drainage project,” Baronda added.

During the budget hearing for DPWH last month, Baronda sought the help of the department in solving the flooding problem in the city.

Moreover, the lady solon has also worked with DPWH the funding for the drainage system for the Uswag Condominium and People’s Residences housing program of the city government.

The congresswoman noted that the People’s Residences which she facilitated for funding will be constructed using the corporate funds of the National Housing Authority wherein only Iloilo City, outside Davao, has availed the allocation.

Baronda thanked the support of the national government in all her plans for the city.
