MANILA – Barotac Nuevo’s John Celiz will be among the newcomers for the Mendiola Football Club 1991 in the 2020 Philippines Football League, which is tentatively scheduled to kick off on April 18.
The Ilonggo was among the new players introduced by the team during its media launch recently aside from his former Green Archers United Globe Football Club teammate Tonaldo Appiah.
Celiz and Appiah were the Green Archers’ leading scorers last year. They did not have a hard time finding a new squad after their former team decided to take a break from the competition.
Aside from the two, Mendiola also welcomed the entry of John Macapal, JRV Malayo, Dave Deloso, and Sean Epili, joining team captain Aaron Altiche, co-captain Ash Flores and defender Soul Ndepe.
“We have strengthened our lineup with a fine mix of standouts from the collegiate tournaments. They are tough and experienced local and foreign players,” said Mendiola’s team manager Erwin Isla.
Mendiola, mainly composed of alumni from San Beda University, now has a major backer in the name of Ricardo Penson.
“As longtime supporters of the San Beda University seniors NCAA football team, strengthening Mendiola Football Club 1991 provides a full growth cycle/portal for the sport and the players,” said Penson.
