Barotac Viejo team bags medals in Dinagyang badminton tourney

ILOILO City – The Barotac Viejo Civet Shuttlers Academy bagged three gold medals and a bronze medal in the 1st Dinagyang National Badminton Tournament (Philippine Super Junior 500) held at the Tigers Badminton Center in Gaisano City, La Paz district from Jan. 24 to 28, 2024.

The team headed by coach Alain Rhey D. Balderas, badminton sports coordinator of Barotac Viejo local government unit, topped the under 11 boys singles, under 11 boys doubles and under 11 girls doubles categories, and won a bronze medal in under 13 boys doubles.

Vhon Dominick Balderas was declared champion in the under 11 boys singles after he defeated a player from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, 21-15 21-14.

Prior to this, Balderas won the quarterfinal and semifinal matches against Dipolog Badminton Association and JBA-Jaguar Janiuay Smashers, respectively.

In the under 11 boys doubles, the tandem of Balderas and Bryden Liam Vencer edged the San Carlos City team, 21-10 21-14, to clinch the title.

Emmanuelle Kassandra Ambalong and Aleihs Yeej Villanueva ruled the under 11 girls doubles by beating the Lambunao Shuttlers Club, 21-11 21-19.

Emmanuel Santi Ambalong and Carl Christian Imperial, meanwhile, settled for a bronze medal finish in the under 13 boys doubles./PN
