KALIBO, Aklan – The municipal government of Batan is proposing for the construction of a bridge that would link its coastal barangays to New Washington.
The proposed 1.5-kilometer bridge will allow motorists headed to Altavas to bypass Banga and Balete.
Should the bridge be built, motorists can use it to travel only 26 kilometers via the Kalibo-New Washington-Batan route.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Batan passed Resolution No. 177 that requested Public Works and Highways secretary Mark Villar to allocate funds for the construction of the interlinking bridge.
The bridge is also seen to reduce the travel time from Aklan to Iloilo and Capiz.
“The bridge will further enhance the mobility, commerce and education, socio-economic lives of residents considering the town of New Washington is adjacent to Kalibo, the capital town of Aklan,” part of the resolution stated.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has referred the resolution to its committee on public works.
Meanwhile, the municipal government of New Washington has yet to approve a resolution supporting the proposed bridge project. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
