Testimony #4 Holy Eucharist Mass Action (HEMA) 2   -Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Baclaran, Pasay City, March 2, 2017

I lost my mother, my brother and my in-law. It was Dec. 26. I was fetching water inside the house. All of a sudden, some men who had been riding motorcycles barged in suddenly.  We were surprised when we heard one shot.

We did not expect that seven people had been shot dead.

We ran and hid in the comfort room when this happened. We did not know what was happening. When all was silent, we opened the door and we found people on the floor, all were dead. All shot in the head!

I started to look for my “Mama.” I thought she was spared. But when we went to the other hut, we found her sprawled on the floor. She, too, had been shot. I never thought something like this could happen. I thought we would be having a Happy New Year.

I can’t bear losing my mother. It is such a painful feeling. They were slaughtered like animals, the way they were killed.

My only request is that whoever did this will be caught and punished.

Good afternoon. I am like the previous people who gave their testimonies.

Though my child is alive, I don’t know when all this suffering will end. He is a survivor but that is not enough and I cannot be truly happy because he is not here beside me. His siblings are worried. True, he might not have died, but he is so far. (His son is under sanctuary).

All I ask President Duterte is that these killings be stopped because innocent people are caught in the crossfire.

My son’s siblings are all worried. They cannot work. They cannot sleep. We do not know when this uncertainty and anxiety will end.

My prayer is that whoever is responsible for killing the companions of my son will not be able to escape this.

That’s all, thank you.

Good morning to all. My name is Chesa and I am the wife of a victim of the violence being done by the police.

My husband was Jason Atienza. He was shot at 2:30 a.m. I was surprised when I suddenly heard shots. And somebody shouted “Ahh!” I did not know that it was my husband who shouted.

He was killed with 16 bullets in all! “Tinadtad siya.” He was chopped/mutilated. My daughter wanted to peep outside our window, but I pulled her back because I was afraid she might be shot, too. I went out and I saw a car. Then I entered our home again. This happened very recently, only last Feb. 15 and so I am having a hard time sharing this with you.

Jason and I had only one child…a daughter. There she is. The wake of Jason lasted five days and in all that time, she did not look at her father. She did not even go out of our house because of extreme fear. Even when her father was buried, she could not also look.

Thank you to the Church because they are the only ones helping people like us. We are not hoping for any help from the politicians.

That is all. Thank you once again.

It was Nov. 27, the fiesta in Lupang Pangako. This happened about three months ago. I asked my son, “Child, what is that?” He answered, “This is nothing, Ma. This is only a pasttime.” I knew that he was always with his friends. But aside from his barkada, there were only the two of us and we lived by scavenging for metal in Payatas. We relied on that for a living, although sometimes, he worked in the parlor.

At that time, I did not know what was really happening in his life. So, I asked him again, “Son, what is that?” As usual, he answered, “This is nothing, Ma.” I said, “I fear for you son.” But I knew that my son was not really like that. We were living by scavenging.

Now, that day, his friend said that “Ta, stop it!” He said he would change already because I am already getting old and cannot continue scavenging anymore. But I ask why…why did this happen, that when my son was determined to change because I am old, this happened? We were in Lupang Pangako.

It was 8:30 in the evening. I was sleeping because I was really tired. I suddenly woke up. I heard someone shouting: “Tikya, Tikya, your son is downstairs and he has been shot!” I went down as fast as I could. I reached him fighting for his life and I cradled him in my arms. I asked why this happened!

The shots that killed him were all on his back. Apparently, he was walking away, going home. Now that my son is gone, I am all alone. Whoever snuffed off the life of my son, I have no recourse but leave it to God. Anyway, there is a God. Thank you.

I will share with you what happened to my son. It was horrible. He went one day with his friends to Phase 4, Payatas. We did not imagine that what would happen that day would happen to us.

My son had no enemy and we don’t know why he was suddenly shot. This is so sad. Dear Lord, please help us. It is so sad. He is the only one who helped us. And he did it so sincerely. How can we go on now? I did not imagine this would happen to him…and to us, his family.

I can only pray that justice be given to my child. He had no enemy. Only friends. He was very generous. Why did this happen to my child, my only hope? He was the only one supporting us. Very sad. He was the only one supporting his siblings. It is my hope that justice be given to him. Thank you very much. (To be continued/PN)
