BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds will be closed indefinitely due to the spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in this city.
At least 24 employees of the BCGC recently tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
“As much as we want to see people having fun, we have to take a break for now,” the mayor said.
The BCGC ground is a popular place for picnics, hangouts and other recreational activities.
Leonardia previously ordered a temporary closure from March 29 to April 4.
“The last time the city recorded the highest daily cases was in Nov. 8, 2020 with 40,” the mayor said.
Leonardia also noted that with the indefinite closure, the city government may be able to curb COVID-19 transmission.
Work in BCGC offices, meanwhile, is ongoing.
Massive decontamination is also being done regularly./PN
