BACOLOD City – Three task units were assigned to guard the city during the entire celebration of the MassKara Festival.
These teams were the security unit, peace and order unit and the emergency preparedness and response unit, according to Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
The security unit, which will have its sub-units, is in-charge of the festival sites, Wanky said.
The peace and order unit, on the other hand, is focused on anticrime operations, including incident investigations.
Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, cluster head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, will lead the emergency preparedness and response unit, which is tasked to respond to emergencies during the celebration.
The task units have a joint operation center at the second floor of the old city hall.
Currently, the security unit is guarding the public plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center.
Wanky said the BCPO will fully enforce security measures on Oct. 17, the day when the Tourism Strip on Lacson Street will open.
BCPO has deployed 50 percent of its police force, according to Wanky.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office has already assigned 100 police officers in the city. It also provided the BCPO with six patrol cars, which is being used by the police stations.
Personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines were also deployed to augment checkpoints for the election gun ban.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology also provided a mobile jail car, Wanky added./PN
