MANILA – San Miguel Beermen is willing to take a gamble on talented but temperamental Terrence Romeo, who was petitioned out of TNT KaTropa for having differences with his teammates.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria said he believes there is still a chance for the former Far Eastern University Tamaraws star to change amid numerous complaints about his attitude.
“Lahat naman puwedeng magbago. With his talent hindi mawawala, sa kanya iyon,” Austria said of Romeo. “Any team naman ay nangangailangan ng katulad ng talent ni Terrence.”
“Si Terrence naman, alam natin, especially noong naglaro siya sa Gilas (Pilipinas), he was the most admired player there at the time,” Austria added. “He is very much welcome in our team.”
Romeo’s transfer to the Beermen has been formalized after the PBA office approved the trade that sent Brian Heruela, David Semerad and two first-round Draft picks to the KaTropa.
Romeo was traded from the KaTropa after almost half of the team petitioned him out for his attitude and penchant for fighting with teammates during practice.
He was involved in the brawl between Gilas Pilipinas and Australia during a FIBA World Cup Qualifier game, and thus one of those suspended.
Prior to his move to the KaTropa earlier this year, Romeo was also booted out of NorthPort Batang Pier after engaging head coach Alfredo Jarencio in a shouting match in a Philippine Cup game./PN
