Behind Successful Teams are Successful Women!

As the month of March draws to a close, allow us to share takeaways from one of CCAP’s (Contact Center Association of the Philippines) International Women’s Month Forums.

“We are more powerful when we empower each other.”

“Behind a successful woman, is another successful woman.”

Ivic Mueco, Board Director of the CCAP (Contact Center Association of the Philippines) Board Director.

“In sports, everyone plays by the same rules.  (It) helps you be a better leader when you know how to recover from a disappointment.”

“Do your best even if no one is watching. (And) have fun (even with the) challenges.”

“Sports is character building.  Xxx  It helps you be a better leader when you know how it feels to recover from a disappointment.”

Mikaela “Mikee” Cojuangco-Jaworski, ASEAN Games Gold Medalist, Executive Board Member, International Olympics Committee

“You can have it all.  But you can’t have it all at once.”

Jessica Shields, Vice President – Global Business Services at Dexcom

While the theme for the annual women’s month had always been women’s issues and achievements, the biggest takeaway is how the work moves forward when women work together.

Today’s teams are different from the teams of the past. Our goals and objectives are the same, but we face challenges unique to the times – lack of unique engagement because of digital technology, lack of meaningful relationships, a fast-paced lifestyle…

When it comes to teamwork, it matters to have

SOLID DIRECTION, A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM, AND A STRONG ORGANIZATION.

It’s no coincidence that many successful endeavors are headed or led by women.  Women are natural leaders.  Meticulous, thorough, and multi-taskers, the “weaker sex” is no stranger to juggling several hats.

The stereotypical feminine qualities are assets when it comes to collaboration, mentoring, and cooperation.  Women are emotionally-inclined. While leadership requires hard analytical skills, numerical aptitude, and project management,  a woman’s edge is in her capacity for empathy and compassion.

This isn’t to say that men don’t have it.  But with today’s drive towards humanistic styles of leadership, soft skills that many women naturally possess are the dominant capabilities that help teams get through crises.

This being said, why are female teams and female-led teams a power to be reckoned with? To recall, the most effective responses to the global pandemic came from female leaders – Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern (New Zealand), Chancellor Angela Merkel (Germany), Prime Minister  Mette Frederiksen (Denmark), President Tsai Ing-wen (Taiwan), Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir (Iceland), Prime Minister Sanna Marin (Finland), and Prime Minister Erna Solberg (Norway).

Women are likely to pay attention to personal needs.  They are more open to new ideas, are likely to reward performance, and tend to adopt a participative, democratic style.
