MANILA – Samjosef Belangel misfired in the endgame as Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus suffered a close 87-85 loss to Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation, in the 2022-2023 Korean Basketball League on Sunday at the Anyang Indoor Stadium.
Holding to a slim 85-83 lead, Belangel missed a triple attempt with 51 seconds left that could have widened the Pegasus lead. Anyang tied the score at 85-all on a conversion by Byun Hyung-jung with 42 ticks remaining.
Belangel failed to give the lead to the Pegasus with 29 seconds left as he missed on another two-pointer before Darryl Monroe drilled the game-winner for the Anyang with two seconds left in the match.
The Bacolod City-native Belangel managed nine points, on 4-of-6 shooting, to go with two steals for Daegu, which dropped to 13-22 win-loss slate. Anyang stayed on top with 24-11 record.
Rhon Jay Abarrientos made his presence felt offensively as Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus scored a 79-65 triumph over Seoul SK Knights at the Ulsan Dongchun Gymnasium.
Abarrientos waxed hot with 20 points, including four three-pointers, to go with five rebounds and five assists as the Phoebus continued its winning streak for a 22-14 win-loss slate.
Gaige Prim chipped in double-double 17 points and 13 rebounds, Wooseok Lee and Myungjin Seo contributed 11 and 10 markers, respectively, while former PBA import Henry Sims had five points and four rebounds.
Meanwhile, Justin Gutang and Changwon LG Sakers survived Dave Ildefosno and Suwon KT Sonic Boom, 81-80, at the Suwon KT Arena behind the game-winner of Jung Hee-jae with four seconds left.
Gutang tallied just two points to go with three rebounds and two assists as the LG Sakers stayed at second place with 22-13 slate. Ildefonso contributed just one point with one rebound as the Sonic Boom dropped to 15-20 record.
Jung ended the match with 11 points, while Assem Marei led the way for the LG Sakers with 22 points and nine rebounds, as Jaedo Lee contributed 19 markers./PN
