APRIL is about to end and it ushers in May, the month of blooms, and June comes with much awaited rain.

The leafless trees, for me, signal the start of summer. It is always hot. The scorching heat is a reminder of the passion of Christ.

April is a time for reflection. Many years back the onset of summer meant leaving my family while I was on scholarship, a sacrifice. It was then a time for me to be away from my home.

The month of May followed, almost always bringing the blessing of rains. It was then the time for my homecoming.

Even today, May has always been exciting as I always see sprouts from leafless trees. There is always a message of hope and a promise of beautiful tomorrows.

In the city, people seem not to sleep at all. Life has become mechanical. People are always rushing, indeed, at times knocking and pushing each other. Many are reduced to becoming automatons, thus the need for a breather.

If we used to stay in the farm, going back to rural areas is returning to our roots. How I love to listen to the music of the rain and feel its loving caress. Soaked in the rain, I always feel like a child again.

How I appreciate the sound of the gurgling river, the scent of grass, the rice fields, and the riotous profusion of blooms and trees flaunting their fruits.

How I love to listen to the sizzling sound of the earth when the rain falls; and, in June, the parched earth is brought back to life and the rice fields turn green again.

Seasons are fleeting. Watch how life unfolds before you and how seasons change, bearing a message about life, in the month of April, May and June. (delsocorrodaquila@gmail.com/PN)
