‘Between Maybes’ starring Julia Barretto, Gerald Anderson sets May release

JULIA Barretto and Gerald Anderson’s first big screen project together is coming out in cinemas sooner than some of their fans may have expected.

On Instagram, Barretto revealed that their film “Between Maybes” will be released in cinemas nationwide on May 15.

In the Black Sheep movie, Barretto plays a famous actress, Hazel Ilagan, who has “no control of her life” despite her success.

“I can relate so much to her. When I first heard about it, I had a soft spot for her already because naiintindihan ko na kung bakit siya naging ganun. Makikita natin sa pelikula kung paano siya napagod sa ginagawa niya. Hindi mo siya ihe-hate kasi may dahilan sa pagkatao niya,” Barretto said of her character.

“This is what I do almost every day of my life. I love what I do. I love my craft and probably so does Hazel. I feel like for Hazel, acting is her home so kahit na lumayo siya kahit gaano katagal pa iyan, uuwi at uuwi siya sa home niya which is her craft,” she added.

Anderson, meanwhile, portrays Louie Puyat, a “simple guy” whose life takes a painful turn after his parents are deported to the Philippines from Japan.

Talking about how he relates to his role, he said: “Lahat naman tayo, there are times in our lives na gusto natin ng tahimik. Gusto natin lumayo sa kung ano ang magulo sa buhay natin. ‘Yun talaga ‘yung foundation ng story na ito. Keeping it simple, not losing yourself and finding yourself and how different people na malayo sa ugali mo can help find yourself again.”

According to Anderson, the unique story of this project excites him and it is also refreshing to have a new leading lady and director.

Barretto echoed this, saying it is exciting to see a new tandem onscreen.

“I don’t think anyone ever expected na magkakatambalan kami. There will be exchange siguro of wisdom. It’s exciting. I feel like I’m gonna grow from him, from this project and from direk,” she said.

“Between Maybes” will mark the second Jason Paul Laxamana film to be produced by Black Sheep after the 2018 romance “To Love Some Buddy.” (ABS-CBN News)
