ILOILO City – This holiday season, be wary of swindlers.
“If may mag-approach nga tawo kag magpakilala na businessman or businesswoman asking your help where to buy construction materials or other items, do not entertain them. Amo na ila modus,” said Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
She added: “Bilinan ka daku nga kwarta but they would ask you to hand over to them your jewelry and money.”
Sangrines gave the public a safety tip: do not bring huge amounts of money and jewelry.
“We are still in a pandemic. Some people want easy money. Mangawat, mang-pickpocket, mang-into para maka-kwarta,” she said.
Avoiding these criminals is easy, according to Sangrines – do not talk to strangers, be cautious.
So far, she said, the ICPO has not yet recorded cases of swindling.
This may be due to maximized police visibility on the streets, malls and other business establishments,” said Sangrines./PN
