SAN JOSE, Antique – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is set to distribute 53 fiberglass fishing boats to marginalized fisherfolk of Caluya, Antique.

Alletth Gayatin, Senior Aquaculturist of the Office of Provincial Agriculture (OPA), on Friday said the fishing boats have yet to be transported due to the inclement weather.

“We were informed that because of the frequently experienced rough seas going to the island municipality of Caluya, the local government unit could not yet transport it,” Gayatin added.

She said the fishing boats, now in Barangay Badiang here, have no outriggers and engines and need to be transported on a cargo vessel, as they hoped target recipients could soon claim it.

The fishing vessels were part of the 900 fiberglass boats given by BFAR through its FB Pagbabago program upon the request of Antique Lone District Rep. Loren Legarda.

The Antique Provincial Engineering Office started the delivery of the boats on June 17 this year in Pandan, Antique.(With a report from PNA/PN
