SAN JOSE , Antique – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will distribute 900 fiberglass boats to marginalized fishermen in Antique.
“We are just waiting for the final schedule for the distribution of the boats,” Office of Provincial Agriculture senior aquaculturist Alletth Gayatin said on Tuesday.
Gayatin said the boats will be granted to the registered fishermen in the Municipal Fisherfolk Registry.
“The recipients are from the 15 coastal towns of the province,” she said.
Gayatin noted each boat is worth P50,000 to P55,000 and will be shared by two recipients.
“The recipient will be asked to sign a simple contract that they will not use the boat for illegal activities,” she said.
Aside from the fiberglass boat, the fishermen will also receive fishing gears and a 7.5 horse power engine, said Antique Provincial Information officer Galileo Magbanua.
“This will surely help the fisherfolk in the province,” he added.
The distribution of the boats is part of the BFAR’s F/B Pagbabago Livelihood Development Program. (With PNA/PN)
