ILOILO City – At least 169 fire incidents across Western Visayas have been reported and responded to by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 6 just 10 days into March, also known as Fire Prevention Month.

According to BFP-6 regional director Fire Chief Superintendent Felixberto Abrenica, 108 were classified as non-structural or grass or forest fires, 58 were structural, and three were vehicular.

Records also show that Iloilo had the highest number of fire incidents within the 10-day period, totaling 78. Following Iloilo is Negros Occidental which had 66 fire incidents, Aklan with eight, Guimaras with seven, and five each in Antique and Capiz.

Here, Abrenica advises residents to be extra cautious, especially in disposing of waste such as burning leaves, properly extinguishing cigarette butts, cooking in the kitchen, checking electrical wiring, and refraining from creating octopus connections to avoid potential hazards./PN
