ILOILO City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 6 is on “red alert” throughout Christmas and New Year and has activated its “Oplan Palupok”.
Fire Chief Superintendent Jerry Candido, BFP-6 director, said their equipment are ready in case of emergencies.
There would be sufficient BFP personnel on duty, particularly on Christmas and New Year’s Eve, he added.
The agency is dissuading the public from blasting off firecrackers to celebrate.
In Western Visayas, Candido said, there are 382 retailers, six manufacturers and one distributor of firecrackers.
Those caught illegally selling firecrackers and pyrotechnics will face charges.
As for Christmas lights, BFP encourages people to buy only those with Import Commodity Clearance sticker, which signifies that the products are of good quality and safe./PN
