BFP-Bacolod urges storage facility owners to secure fire permit

BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in this city urged storage facility owners to obtain a fire safety permit to avoid fire incidents.

Fire Officer II Rolin Faulan, chief arson investigator of the BFP-Bacolod City, said the owners of the storage facilities or warehouses should comply with their fire clearance.

“This is in order for us to know what needs to be installed for pro-active fire prevention,” he explained.

The said facilities must have a material safety data sheet (MSDS) in order to provide detailed information about a chemical substance, including its hazards, safe handling, storage, and emergency procedures.

“It [MSDS] is essential for ensuring workplace safety and regulatory compliance. Employees use it to understand potential risks and proper protective measures when working with hazardous materials,” Faulan added.

The appeal of the city’s BFP comes after a fire broke out at a storage facility of junk vehicles owned by a private bus company in Barangay Cabug here around 1:52 p.m. on Sunday, April 20.

Authorities said a worker sustained minor burns on his stomach, and nine bus units were destroyed and two others were damaged.

Fire investigators said the blaze was believed to be electrical in nature./PN
