BFP-Iloilo City on heightened alert for holiday season

ILOILO City – The Bureau of Fire Protection in this city is on heightened alert or “double vigilance” this holiday season.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Jayson Gallego, Community Relations Unit chief of the Iloilo City Fire Station, said the city is on alert status from Dec. 1, 2022 to Jan. 5, 2023 to ensure the safety of the residents during holidays.

 “Naga-conduct kita sang fire safety lectures and inspections sa mga designated firecracker areas naton,” Gallego said.

The BFP is also on red alert from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1, which is considered the peak season for fireworks sales. 

“Ang red alert status naton is on Dec. 23 to Jan. 1. Diri na ni masako ang baklanay sang mga palupok or firecrackers naton,” he added.

As part of their preparations, the BFP-Iloilo City will also conduct a “One Media Campaign” wherein there will be media coverage for all stations, offices and areas, as well as fire safety tips posted on their Facebook pages to make people aware and be reminded of their safety.

Gallego also said that they will be making announcements to barangays all over the city.

BFP-Iloilo City will also inspect the permits of vendors and kiosks at designated firecracker zones as well as monitor those areas./PN
