Binalbagan encounter: Unidentified man killed, soldier, civilian wounded

BACOLOD City – An unidentified armed man believed to be a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed while a soldier of the Philippine Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion Charlie Company and another civilian were wounded in an encounter in Barangay Santol, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

The encounter took place around 5 p.m. on Aug. 5.

Police said Private Willien Paul Tabafa, 25, of Esperanza, Agusan Del Sur and Henry Prial, 50, a resident of Barangay Santol sustained gunshot wounds.

The unidentified man, meanwhile, died at the Isabela District Hospital.

The military also captured two suspected insurgents. They were George Esoy and Eduardo Estrada, both residents of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental. They were alleged to be members of the NPA’s Central Negros Front 1.

Several firearms and paraphernalia were also recovered from the area including an M653 Baby Armalite, one M14 rifle, one M16A1 rifle, one homemade shotgun, six magazine of M14 rifle with ammunition, one shotgun magazine with ammunitions, two cellphones, medical kit, and handheld radios.

The encounter lasted for about five minutes, according to the police./PN
