BACOLOD City – Mayor Emmanuel Aranda of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental plans to file direct assault and libel charges against public transport and civil society leader Dionisio Encinares.
Encinares lodged less serious physical injury and grave threat charges against the mayor at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
He claimed Aranda punched and threatened to shoot him on Oct .11 during a meeting of the Local Poverty Reduction Action Team (LPRAT) at the latter’s conference room.
His camp has yet to decide when to file the countercharges but Aranda already said he is open to settlement.
“Kon i-withdraw ya ang kaso, mapa-withdraw man ko sang kaso,” said the mayor.
It would not have reached point had Encinares apologized to him during the meeting, he said.
Aranda had admitted attacking Encinares, but he told a news conference on Friday he did not punch but “backhanded” the latter.
Again, the mayor denied threatening to shoot Encinares, an LPRAT member.
Aranda said Encinares’ offensive post on Facebook caused him “too much anger.”
“Kon ikaw isa ka mayor, hambalon ka nga gago ka nga klase mayor kag gin-post pa sa Facebook,” he said.
He said Encinares posted, “Gago nga mayor, pahulat-hulat, daw waay man gihapon. Maayo guro sa mayor na patulugon.”
“Indi ina amo,” he said of the allegation that he threatened to shoot Encinares. “Siguro tapungulon ko lang sia, pero ngaa tiruhon ko pa gid?”
Encinares claimed he only posted about transport problems in Binalbagan left unaddressed. “Halin 2012 nga problema, wala ma-solbar.”/PN
