BACOLOD City – Third Infantry Division commander Major General Jon Aying has cleared the name of Binalbagan town vice mayor Samuel Gavaran.

Gavaran’s name was included in the list of 230 people who were facing an arrest order for allegedly supporting the Maute group.

In a text message sent to Panay News yesterday, Aying said Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has already removed Gavaran from the arrest order dated June 5, 2017.

Lorenzana explained that upon checking, the name belonged to a North Mindanao resident.

“Vice, I have directed the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) to check your name again. Namesake mo daw ‘yun. He is a Samuel Gavaran from northern Mindanao who is a Muslim convert,” Lorenzana told the vice mayor.

“I sincerely apologize for the mistake and for dragging you into this. You are, henceforth, cleared,” he added.

On Wednesday, Gavaran aired his sentiments in a radio interview, saying he was surprised to learn that he was in a list of 230 alleged Maute group supporters and financiers the government is hunting down.

“How can I be involved in this [when] I was here in Binalbagan?” he said./PN
