ILOILO – The municipality of Bingawan inaugurated a new police station.

The construction of the P4.6-million three-storey station started early this year on the lot donated by the local government of Bingawan.
Bingawan’s old police station was damaged by super typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Tambungan, chief of the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Directorial Staff, led the inauguration on Sept. 14.
According to Senior Superintendent Roderick Augustus Alba, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), the three-storey police station is a “standard” Philippine National Police (PNP) station design.

To date, 18 Iloilo towns have standard police stations, Alba revealed.
Three more towns will inaugurate theirs before this year is over, said Alba. These are Oton, Concepcion and Dumangas.
Among the municipalities that already have standard police stations are Igbaras, Ajuy, Carles, Barotac Nuevo, San Joaquin, Santa Barbara, Pavia, New Lucena, Janiuay, and Banate.

As of 2014, the PNP Directorate for Logistics said there were a total of 1,766 police stations in the country, 99 of them city police stations and the rest municipal police stations.
Of these stations, 895 were considered standard PNP-owned police stations while 854 others have been described as “not standard” or simply not based with specifications made by the National Police Commission and the PNP national headquarters.
The minimum lot and floor area requirement for each PNP station is 400 square meters (lot area) and 288 square meters (floor area)./PN
