SAN JOSE, Antique – The much awaited overlaying of the rubberized track oval for the Binirayan Sports Complex in this capital town has started. The 2017 Palarong Pambansa will be held here from April 23 to 29.

“DMCI, our donor for the overlaying of the international standard rubberized track oval, is expected to complete the work within seven to 14 days. Definitely this will be ready in time for the Palaro,” said Atty. Arthur Lastimoso, chairperson of the Antique Palarong Pambansa Organizing Committee.

The new rubberized track oval is much thicker than the old one. Aside from the asphalted base, another six-inch thick cemented base was added before the overlaying of the rubberized track oval.

“We were told by DMCI that this rubberized track oval will last more or less 30 to 50 years, and rain or water will no longer cause problems,” Lastimoso said.

Antique is “now 70 percent prepared for the Palaro but this will skyrocket to 90 percent once the rubberized track oval is fully laid out by DMCI,” he added.

Regarding the preparation of 30 billeting schools for the athletes of the 18 regions that will participate in the national sports event, Lastimoso said the province is “doing very good.” (PIA-Antique/PN)
