BIR – RDO 74 kicks off 2024 tax campaign; top taxpayers cited

The Bureau of Internal Revenue’s Revenue District Office 74 recognized its five top non-individual taxpayers recently. The plaques of recognition were received by representatives of F. Gurrea Construction Inc.; J.E. Tico Construction Co., Inc.; Iloilo Supermart Inc.; MCR Agri-Venture Corporation; and Visayan Vets Port Services Inc. Top BIR officials present include Revenue District Officer for RDO-74, Marinelia N. German, Regional Director Joseph M. Catapia, and Assistant Regional Director Jona Ruth G. Alonte.

ILOILO City – The Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR)  Revenue District Office (RDO) 74 covering this city, 15 municipalities in Iloilo province, and Guimaras province kicked off their 2024 tax campaign season with an event held at the Iloilo Convention Center on March 14, 2024.

The event started with a message by the new Revenue District Officer for RDO-74, Marinelia N. German, and was followed with a message by Regional Director Joseph M. Catapia who presented his area’s achievements and saluted honest tax practitioners.

The BIR awarded its Top 5 compliant taxpayers in three categories:  individual taxpayers, non-individual taxpayers, and national government agencies / local government units.

The Top 5 individual taxpayers were:

1. Theodore M. Valderrama Sr.

2. Romeo Go

3. Tommy Que

4. Samuel So Jr.

5. Theodore W. Valderrama Jr.  

On the other hand, the Top 5 non-individual taxpayers were:

1. F. Gurrea Construction Inc.

2. J.E. Tico Construction Co., Inc.

3. Iloilo Supermart Inc.

4. MCR Agri-Venture Corporation

5. Visayan Vets Port Services Inc.

The Top 5 national government agencies / local government unit awardees, meanwhile, were:

1. Western Visayas Medical Center

2. Department of Education Culture and Sports (Division of Iloilo)

3. Iloilo City Government

4. Department of Social Welfare and Development

5. Department of Health

The event followed with a response message from the top compliant taxpayers.  

John Alexander Que, representing Iloilo Supermart, Inc. gave a response  in behalf of the top private taxpayer awardees. He thanked the BIR for their dedication and hardwork and wished them success in achieving their targets.

He also lauded the national government’s efforts in making paying taxes easier with measures such as the Ease of Paying Taxes Act (EOPT) and the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).  

The top government taxpayers were represented by a response speech by Dr. Ernesto F. Servillon Jr. of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports.

A Pledge of Commitment to pay the correct taxes on time, voluntarily and without reservation was presented and was signed by the 15 awardees.

The event was concluded with a closing message by Assistant Regional Director Jona Ruth G. Alonte.

The theme “Sa Tamang Buwis, Pag-asenso’y Mabilis” aims to encourage all taxpayers to file their Income Taxes for 2023 accurately and on time on or before April 15, 2024./PN
