ILOILO City – Dumangas and Balasan kept their undefeated record in women’s volleyball of the 2017 Biron Cup Inter-municipality Invitational at the Bingawan, Iloilo gym.
Dumangas clinched its third straight victory on Sunday to be on top of bracket B after a come-from-behind domination over Bingawan (23-25, 25-16, 25-20) and a sweep over Dingle (25-10, 25-8).
Balasan, on the other hand, opened its campaign with two straight victories at the expense of Barotac Viejo (25-13, 25-15) and New Lucena (25-16, 25-17) to place behind Dumangas.
New Lucena bagged its first win in the afternoon session when it defeated Dingle (25-20, 25-16). The same goes for home team Bingawan, which swept Barotac Viejo (25-9, 25-18).
In men’s volleyball, Pavia and San Miguel went ahead of the pack in bracket A — just like Concepcion and Passi in bracket C — by winning their first two matches in the tournament.
Pavia first defeated Santa Barbara, 25-22, 25-21, before whipping Oton, 25-17, 19-25, 25-14, while San Miguel had straight-set triumphs over Bingawan (25-20, 25-16) and Santa Barbara (25-17, 25-21).
Concepcion topped bracket C with twin victories over Lemery (25-10, 25-8) and Dingle (25-21, 25-19), while Passi dominated Dingle (25-20, 25-16) and Lemery (25-18, 25-21).
In men’s basketball, San Enrique kept its unblemished slate after surviving a gritty stand by Barotac Nuevo before escaping with a 104-101 win at the Barotac Viejo gymnasium.
Anilao barged into the win column when it beat Banate, 78-74, while Barotac Viejo opened its campaign with an 85-73 domination over Dueñas./PN
