ILOILO – A businessman and his helper were wounded after two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen shot them on Monday night, September 16, in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya, Zarraga town.
Zarraga police said Noel Madera, 40, of Barangay Pasil, New Lucena, Iloilo, was onboard his tricycle on the way to Barangay Inagdangan, Zarraga to drop off his helpers Jake Susal, 25, and Christine Sigaya at their houses when the shooting incident happened.
Madera sustained a gunshot wound on his stomach. He is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery at Metro Iloilo Hospital in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Susal was shot on his left leg and was also brought to the same hospital while Sigaya was unharmed.
According to Captain Zharra Dela Rosa, chief of the Zarraga Municipal Police Station (MPS), hold-up appeared to be the motive of the incident but they are not discounting the possibility that it was business-related
The victims, she said, came from Madera’s grocery store at the Zarraga Public Market.
The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered from the crime scene several empty shells of a firearm.
As of this writing, officers of the Zarraga MPS were still investigating the incident to identify the gunmen./PN
