ILOILO City – A businessman lost P600 thousand to robbers on New Year’s Day in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya, Passi City.
According to 38-year-old Rolando Palmes, his room was forcibly opened and the money he kept inside was taken away.
At the time of the robbery, there was no one in the house. Palmes and his wife were at the wake of a dead relative, also in Passi City.
The couple discovered the robbery only upon returning home around 6:30 p.m., said Superintendent Ruby Gumban, Passi City police chief.
The Palmeses were into the meat business. They left their house around 9 a.m. on Jan. 1.
According to Gumban, the robbery likely happened between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The Palmeses found it strange that their jewelry were left untouched, he added.
As of this writing, no suspects were named.
The robber or robbers destroyed the house’s back door to get inside, initial police investigation showed.
“The culprits seem to know where the money was being kept,” said Gumban./PN
