ILOILO City – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) 6 started its investigation of the death of an inmate at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo.
Gilbert Peremne, BJMP-6 assistant regional director for administration, said he ordered the probe to find out the cause of death of 44-year-old Nicasio Solacito, a resident of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
Solacito, who faces homicide charge, was found dead in his cell in the morning of July 18 during the accounting of inmates.
He was last seen alive in the evening of July 17 supposedly eating instant noodles.
Solacito sustained no wounds suggestive of murder, BJMP6’s initial investigation showed.
“This [seems] a natural death and not a case of murder. However, we have to conduct an investigation upon the request of the family,” Peremne said.
The victim was remitted at the BJMP on the first week of July after five months of imprisonment in Sta. Barbara police station. He was charged with homicide after allegedly killing his younger brother on Feb. 27 this year./PN
