Blackwater owner to settle score with PBA, GAB

MANILA – Blackwater Elite team owner Dioceldo Sy will be meeting with Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner Willie Marcial and Games and Amusement Board (GAB) chairman Abraham Mitra to settle the differences.

Sy said in an interview with Spin.ph over the weekend he is setting up separate “personal meetings” with Marcial on Tuesday at the PBA’s office in Libis, Quezon City and with Mitra also within this week.

He added that his decision to sell the Blackwater franchise will depend on what will happen in the discussion with the PBA commissioner.

Sy told various media outfits last week that Blackwater is up for sale for a minimum of P150 million after he was called out for holding a team practice sans the PBA’s green light.

Sy’s younger brother and PBA board of governor Silliman, for his part, said the team decided to drop the appeal on the P100,000 fine slapped by Marcial following talks among top officials of the company.

“We decided not to appeal. We’ll just accept and respect the decision of the commissioner,” said Silliman. “We will comply with the quarantine order, move on and wait for the official go signal for practice to begin.”

The Blackwater issue originated when Sy himself in a television interview said the team held a workout. Eight players who split in clusters of four did conditioning and shootaround sessions./PN
