
CALIFORNIA – Stephen Curry waxed hot in the second half as the Golden State Warriors cruised to a 127-113 triumph over the Atlanta Hawks in the 2021-2022 NBA Season on Monday night (Tuesday in the Philippines) at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Curry connected nine triples to finish with a season-high 50 points to go with 10 assists and seven rebounds as the Warriors notched its fifth straight win for a league-leading 9-1 win-loss slate.
Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins added 16 and 13 markers, respectively, while Damion Lee and Juan Toscano-Anderson contributed 11 each for the Warriors.
Down by as much as 15 points in the opening half, the Warriors slowly clawed its way back in the second quarter behind Draymond Green and Curry to come to within 61-65 at the half.
The Warriors continued its run in the second half for an 84-77 edge behind Poole and Kevon Looney before widening it to 102-85 on consecutive points from Curry to end the quarter.
The Hawks showed some life in the fourth quarter. It trimmed the deficit to 95-109 but back-to-back three-pointers from Curry widened the Warriors lead to 119-96 with four minutes left.
Trae Young finished the game with 28 points and nine assists, while John Collins and Bogdan Bogdanovic added 19 and 17 points, respectively, as the Hawks dropped to 4-7.
Meanwhile, Anthony Davis and Carmelo Anthony took turns on offense in the overtime period as the Los Angeles Lakers (6-5) prevailed over Charlotte Hornets (5-7), 126-123.
Down 117-121 in the extra period, Davis came up with an inside hit followed by a three-pointer from Anthony and another close range basket from Davis for a 124-121 edge.
The Hornets trimmed the deficit to 123-124 on an two-pointer by Rozier but two free throws by Davis with under a minute left extended Lakers’ advantage to 126-123.
Davis had double-double 32 points and 12 rebounds, Anthony added 29 markers, while Russell Westbrook had triple-double 17 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds for the Lakers.
